Sir Howard Panter is a prominent theatre owner / producer and one of the key figures in the arts and entertainment industry with over 40 years’ experience gained in organisations such as The Royal Court Theatre, The Royal Shakespeare Company and Michael Codron Ltd.
Howard’s latest venture with his wife Dame Rosemary Squire, is Trafalgar Entertainment, a live entertainment business focussed on new productions and the distribution of live-streaming innovative content and is home to Trafalgar Theatre (set to open Spring 2021), Theatre Royal Sydney, Trafalgar Theatre Productions, Trafalgar Releasing, Stagecoach Performing Arts, London Theatre Direct, Luke Shires Marketing, Jonathan Church Theatre Productions, Chiswick Cinema and More2Screen.
In 2017, the company acquired Trafalgar Releasing who broadcast productions live worldwide, from The RSC, Glyndebourne, Met Opera, Bolshoi Ballet and Royal Opera House to David Gilmour, Muse, Coldplay, BTS, The Cure, Metallica, Shakira, Depeche Mode, Gorillaz, Little Mix, Nick Cave and Trafalgar Theatre Productions’ The King and I, live from the iconic London Palladium among many other events. The following year, Trafalgar Entertainment acquired Stagecoach Performing Arts, the UK market leader in extra-curricular Performing Arts tuition with over 2,000 schools and classes and over 50,000 students in the UK and worldwide. In 2019, Trafalgar Entertainment began new partnerships with Luke Shires Marketing, More2Screen and London Theatre Direct, one of the UK’s leading ticket retailers and distributors. Later in the year, Jonathan Church Theatre Productions was launched to create theatrical work including new and classic musicals and plays for London, the UK regions and internationally with award-winning theatre director and producer Jonathan Church as Artistic Director. In 2020, Trafalgar Entertainment became the new operator of the Theatre Royal Sydney which is planned to reopen late 2021 as the cornerstone of TE’s Asia-Pacific operation. The largest shareholder of Trafalgar Entertainment is Barings Alternative Investment, which operates as a subsidiary of MassMutual Holding LLC, with assets under management of US$771 billion. Other shareholders include Greg Dyke, James Tanner, NWH Consulting Ltd, Sir Richard Branson and Griffon Corporation.
The production arm of Trafalgar Entertainment, Trafalgar Theatre Productions, produces new shows and classic musicals in London and internationally including the Tony and Olivier award-winning smash hit musical, Jersey Boys, which will open London’s new Trafalgar Theatre in 2021, the hilarious new comedy, Death Drop, at the Garrick Theatre this Christmas, the 2021 World Tour of The Rocky Horror Show, the Lincoln Center’s award-winning production of The King and I at the London Palladium and worldwide, and a co-production of War Horse with The National Theatre in Australia and Asia-Pacific.
In the West End, productions have included On Blueberry Hill, The National Theatre’s A Taste of Honey starring Jodie Prenger, Peter Nichols’ A Day in the Death of Joe Egg starring Toby Stephens, Claire Skinner and Patricia Hodge, Equus by Peter Shaffer, the hit comedy Education, Education, Education, the acclaimed award-winning play Admissions starring Alex Kingston, new British musical Tom Morris’ The Grinning Man, Apologia starring Stockard Channing and Killer Joe starring Orlando Bloom. Other co-productions at the former Trafalgar Studios have included the two sell-out ground breaking productions: the Bush Theatre’s Misty and National Theatre’s Nine Night. Co-productions include The Starry Messenger starring Matthew Broderick and Elizabeth McGovern at Wyndham’s Theatre, Mary Stuart starring Juliet Stevenson and Lia Williams at the Duke of York’s, Jersey Boys UK Tour, the UK Tour and London season of The Messiah starring Hugh Dennis and The Height of The Storm at Wyndham’s Theatre starring Jonathan Pryce and Dame Eileen Atkins.
Prior to Trafalgar Entertainment, Howard was co-founder, Joint CEO and Creative Director for the Ambassador Theatre Group Ltd (ATG), the world’s number one live-theatre company with over 50 venues in Britain, the US and Europe. Howard and Rosemary remain the second largest shareholder of ATG. Under his leadership, ATG became from scratch one of the most prolific, broad-based theatre producers in the world with productions in the West End and on Broadway including touring productions in the UK, North America, Europe, Australia and Asia.
Productions and co-productions at ATG at this time included The Ruling Class starring James McAvoy, The Homecoming starring John Simm, Oresteia, Pedro Almodovar’s Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown starring Tamsin Greig, East is East starring Jane Horrocks, Richard III starring Martin Freeman, Jersey Boys, Macbeth starring James McAvoy, The Hothouse starring Simon Russell Beale, Posh, Jumpy and Constellations (Royal Court at the Duke of York’s), Legally Blonde the Musical, Monty Python’s Spamalot, The Rocky Horror Show, South Pacific at The Barbican, Matthew Bourne’s Nutcracker!, The Misanthrope starring Damian Lewis and Keira Knightley, West Side Story, Guys and Dolls starring Ewan McGregor and multi award-winning West End musical Carmen Jones. Productions on Broadway included The Mountaintop starring Samuel L Jackson and Angela Bassett; Exit the King starring Geoffrey Rush and Susan Sarandon and John Doyle’s award-winning production of Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd: the Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
Howard is a Director of the Rocky Horror Company Limited and Chairman of the Birmingham Rep Theatre. He was Chairman of The English Shakespeare Company, Director of West End theatre owners Maybox Group plc and Chair of Rambert Dance Company, the UK’s leading national contemporary dance company, who under his ten year Chairmanship successfully built their award-winning new dance centre on the South Bank and led the company into a new era of success and stability.
Dame Rosemary Squire

Dame Rosemary Squire is one of the most prominent woman in British theatre of the modern era. She is currently co-founder, Joint CEO and Executive Chair of Trafalgar Entertainment (TE), alongside her husband and business partner, Sir Howard Panter.
TE is a premium international live entertainment business focussed on new productions and the distribution of live-streaming innovative content and is home to the newly announced Trafalgar Theatre (set to open Spring 2021), Theatre Royal Sydney, Trafalgar Theatre Productions, Trafalgar Releasing, Stagecoach Performing Arts, London Theatre Direct, Luke Shires Marketing, Jonathan Church Theatre Productions, Chiswick Cinema and More2Screen.

Rosemary is the only woman to have won the EY UK Entrepreneur of the Year Award and in 2015, she became the first woman to represent the UK at the World Entrepreneur of the Year Awards.
She was a National Member of the Arts Council England Board for ten years, was Chairman of the Board for Sonia Friedman Productions and is currently Joint Chair of The Hall for Cornwall.
As President of the Society of London Theatre, Rosemary became the second only female President in the organisation’s history. She won the prestigious CBI Real Business First Women Award for Tourism & Leisure and was awarded an OBE for Services to Theatre.
Rosemary raised over £6m as Chair of the Theatres for Theatres Appeal at Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity. Subsequently as Chair of the charity’s Tick Tock Club, she raised almost £14m for the hospital’s first intraoperative MRI suite – a specialised facility combining an operating theatre and interconnected scanning suite to enable real-time imaging during delicate brain surgery.
Respected advocates for cultural industries in the UK and internationally, Rosemary and Howard topped The Stage 100 for seven consecutive record-breaking years. They also topped the Evening Standard ‘Power 1000’ Theatre section and Rosemary was one of the 100 women on the inaugural BBC Radio 4 Woman’s Hour UK Power List in 2013, appearing at number 16.
Rosemary has been awarded Honorary Doctorates from Southampton University and De Montfort University in recognition of her achievements as a theatre entrepreneur and Woking Borough Council bestowed Honorary Freedom of the Borough upon Rosemary and Howard, both long-serving members of their local community. In 2018, she was named Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in The Queen’s New Year Honours list for services to Theatre and Philanthropy.
